Poem #1 Type: Free Verse
The bats of the night,
Staying out of sight,
How I wish I could be like them.
They stay hidden,
unridden—
Without the everyday problems of the ground.
Why must they be so free?
So far away from me,
Am I the one in the wrong?
I stare off at the night sky,
Watching them fly
Jealous of the freedom they love.
Poem #2 Type: Haiku
He should be in jail.
No innocence remained here,
just a shell, silenced.
Poem #3 Type: Free Verse
Hands dragged along my skin,
my hips a leverage for twisted fate.
No words were spoken then
Just quiet misery.
The advantage was to the darkness,
It knew this fact well.
Taking time to use me up,
Making a minute into eternity.
My face stayed blank and buried,
Afraid to see the darkness behind me,
Or maybe it was just because,
I feared it would hurt me.
It ended as soon as it had begun,
Ended swift and brutal.
The darkness left into the night,
leaving me tainted, unusable.
Poem #4 Type: Ode
Reliable and strong,
Isolation was my friend.
My room my sanctuary,
A comfort to my heart.
I shed tears,
I laughed and laughed,
I spent hours and days,
Enjoying my peace.
Poem #5 Type: Elegy
I lie awake and watch the dark,
where whispered echoes start to creep.
A house can hold a thousand words
yet keep them bruised far from sleep.
The hallway humans with fragile air,
two shadows lean on separate walls.
Their voices fade to splintered threads
that drift like dust through quiet halls.
